A simple act of Bravery

What would you do in the face of Danger?

Medal of Honor Recipients

The founding fathers believe that the soldiers should not be rewarded for the act of bravery. That changed in 1863 during the civil war with a group of men and the Medal of Honor. The first man to be granted this honor was Private Andrew Johnson. He and his men were told to sabotage a confederate railroad. They put on confederate uniform and high jacked a train as a cover. Soon people found out what they were doing, and then the train ran out of steam so they decided to try and make a run to safety. They were soon captured and taken prisoners. Some were hung, some shot, and some beaten to death but there was six of them including Private Johnson. When they got home he and the others were awarded this Medal of Honor.

Sergeant William Harvey Carney was the first African American to win to the Medal of Honor. During the civil war in a battle the color sergeant was shot and killed. Before the flag hit the ground, he dropped his gun and grabbed the flag. He was injured twice and still led the soldiers to safety. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for the act of bravery.

Doctor Mary Edward Walker was a surgeon during the Civil War. She was the first and only woman to of earned the Medal of Honor. She worked on the front line and behind enemy lines for the wounded and sick soldiers. She was taken prisoner for being a spy in 1864. She was a prisoner for four month. Many men did not think the front line was a place for a woman but she kept on going back. Before World War 1 the standards they had changed and the government tried to rescind her medal. She refused to give her medal back, 60 years after getting it taken away it was represented to her family.

Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta was the most recent soldier to get the Medal of Honor. In the war of Afghanistan he and his men were walking. They were ambushed and another man was wounded and getting dragged away by two enemy men. He ran up to them in the middle of an ambush and shot them to get him. When they got to the helicopter the man was in a lot pain. They got back to camp to find he had just earlier died. He got the medal for saving his fellow friend.

This was a project for school and I wanted to share it. As a Christian are you willing to face the danger of rejection for Jesus. Think about it
